"CHAI Patra".
What is CHAI Patra?
The word "Chai" is commonly
used in India for 'tea' and "Patra"
means 'letter' in Hindi as well as Nepali
(the other word for 'letter' in Nepali
is "Chittih"). History stands
tall and clamors that without the Nepalese
people, Darjeeling tea would not have
been possible. It was through the initiatives
of Dr. Campbell and Shri Dakman Rai
that laborers from Nepal were brought
to work in the tea gardens. It is said
that every resident in Darjeeling has
a history of their forefathers being
employed in one of the tea gardens.
Tea producing areas of Darjeeling district
consists of 90% Nepali speaking community
and this is the reason why we call our
newsletters "CHAI Patra" which
brews the Nepalese community with Darjeeling
Tea from the first time the Britons
first planted their tea seed in Darjeeling.
We send you a single newsletter every
month letting you know a little bit
about us, who we are, along with offerings
and updates on new arrivals. We personally
tour one tea garden once in 3 months
to collect stories to be included in
the monthly newsletter, so that you
too can feel the rural life of the tea
gardens, its laborers and their way
of life. It will be a tremendous experience
for you with real photo updates of the
tour.
This monthly newsletter is intended
to update Tea Connoisseurs like YOU
with the most recent happenings in the
Darjeeling Tea industry and as mentioned
above, give you the essence of rural
life in the tea gardens.
