Goomtee
FTGFOP1 Yellow Tea
2009 |
| This
particular grade of tea can
be called one of the first Darjeeling
Tea experimented at Goomtee
Tea Estate by the Manager, Mr.
Sagar Rawat. Its similar to
green tea, but most Darjeeling
green teas are average quality
except for a few grades such
as Arya Emerald. Most of Darjeeling
green teas part a light vegetal
note with accompanying light
Darjeeling characteristics,
but this as being a yellow tea
imparts a total different character.
The processing of yellow tea
is similar to that of greens,
but supposed to have a slower
drying period. This yellow tea
has come out to be quite different
because of the Darjeeling characteristics
present. If nurtured and processed
well, this can have a new market
of its own with a different
fan base.
This batch was specially
ordered by one of our wholesale
customers, but Goomtee sent
us some extra sack. Just a
sack is remaining with us
and thought why not we put
it up and let others try as
well.
Dry Tea leaves: It
seems to be a beautiful combination
of yellow, black and green
leaves, with an overall blackish-yellow
appearance. The darker blackish
leaves tend to have some yellow
spots as if tending to peal
off the dark façade and reveal
the yellow inside. Quite a
unique appearance. The leaves
are curly, but not resembling
that of bps grade which are
much shorter in length. To
be precise, it has got well
rolled and twisted slender
leaves which tend to curl.
The first aroma gives an intriguing
feel of roasted peanuts which
is quite rare in a Darjeeling
green. Recommended: Smell
as soon as you open the pack.
It has got considerable amount
of tips and if observed closely,
the black leaves tend to appear
shiny due to the presence
of minute silver hairs. Apart
from the first roasted peanuts
characteristics, it also imparts
a slight fruity aroma, which
also appears to have a very
mild meaty character reminiscent
of an oolong tea.
Wet Tea leaves:
It has a mild sweet, honey
toned nose. The leaves tend
more towards the yellow-greenish
color leaving the black hidden.
The curly leaves tend to expand
and reveal its true size.
Apart from the slight sweetness,
it tends to be more nutty
similar to almonds; fruity
and the roasted peanuts character
can be found here as well.
It also has that slight vegetal
notes common in Darjeeling
green and white teas. Mild
meaty character also present,
but not prominent.
Cup or Tea Liqor:
It imparts a pale yellow colored
liqor which has a weak body.
The cup gets bitter if steeped
for more than 3 minutes, so
2.5-3 minutes steeping recommended.
It is slightly astringent
leaving the middle of the
tongue dry. It tastes like
a green Darjeeling slightly
vegetal, sweet, but also nutty
as the black Darjeeling teas.
If you like to try what
Darjeeling is doing behind
the tea bushes, then we would
highly recommend on trying
this tea. We would love to
hear your feedbacks. A rare
and limited edition tea.

ARYA EMERALD
(Organic Darjeeling Green
Tea)
2009 |
Darjeeling
is renowned for its seasonal
black teas, but some of you
must have stumbled upon some
Darjeeling greens. Some must
have tried it as well and obviously
found that the China and others
excel in this, but this "Arya
Emerald" infuses the very
delicate characteristics of
a Darjeeling and a green and
proves it as a note worthy Darjeeling
Green tea. It is one you must
give it a try without which
it would be very wrong to degrade
a Darjeeling green. Its an 'exotic'
Darjeeling Green.
Dry Tea leaves: Amazing
elongated, well twisted and
thin-wiry leaves that are quite
longish in appearance. It has
an overall pale-yellow and green
appearance with abundance of
silver tips which is rare in
a Darjeeling green. When touched,
it gives you that wiry feeling
and the silkiness can be felt
due to its silver hairs. The
leaf is aromatic giving some
faint and some strong individual
fruity and flowery aroma. It
is somewhat citric or 'lemon
like' as well. Wet
Tea leaves: If you
enlarge the photo of the infused
leaf, those are only buds that
have unfolded. It has an overall
green colored infusion with
a slight mixture of pale green,
pale yellow and brown tinge.
It is highly aromatic; fruity
and flowery. It has a slight
grassy aroma accompanied by
slight sugary sweetness. It
is buttery and slightly almondy.
Cup or Tea Liqor:
Compared to the rest of our
Second Flush selection, this
is the lightest cup with Risheehat
Silver Tips coming in second.
It is almost colorless, leaning
more towards the yellow shade.
It has a marvelous fruity and
flowery notes with slight boiled
veggie notes. It is smooth and
some dryness can be felt in
the mouth. It has sweet and
fruity after taste.
If you always encountered
a bad Darjeeling green or
would like to know what a
real quality Darjeeling Green
is like - Arya Emerald is
a perfect example and a mark

ARYA TOPAZ
- Organic Darjeeling Oolong
Tea
2009 |
Arya
Topaz is another great Darjeeling
Second Flush tea. Its actually
a semi-fermented tea, an oolong
tea, Darjeeling style. Most
of the Darjeeling oolongs just
do the part of "semi-ferment"
and the oolong is made. Arya
follows a very different process
for making this oolong and even
uses a different roller for
this. This is why it differs
from other oolongs you might
have tasted before. Multiple
steeps possible and you can
try with different timings.
Dry Tea leaves: Fairly
larger, but lighter (weight)
leaves than the normal china
grades, this Darjeeling Oolong
is something bolt from the blue.
Second Flush tea is highly aromatic
which is intensified by sprinkling
some hot water. It is a mixture
of black, brown and slight yellow-green
leaves. Has a definite shine
with shiny hairs over the body
accompanied by considerable
amount of tips. Seems well rolled
and twisted. It is sweet with
fruity and flowery aroma.
Wet Tea leaves:
The infused leaves beautifully
unfolds into a mixture of light
and dark chocolate brown colors.
It also has slight color hints
of green like we find in the
First Flush teas. The wet leaves
are larger in size and is high
on fruity and flowery aroma.
It gives slight hints of ginger
and cardamom. Cup
or Tea Liqor: The cup
is light in color and not like
the other Darjeelings. Golden-pale
yellow cup which is smooth with
slight astringency. It is high
on fruity and floral notes.
Slightly sweet in taste and
fruity. Yes, multiple infusions
can be tried with different
steeping times. Experiment yourself
and find the difference.
The real Darjeeling Oolong
prepared with utmost care.
A tea for a Darjeeling Tea
lover who would like to explore
more varieties of Darjeeling
Teas.

MARGARET'S
HOPE HAND ROLLED SPL. EX-
26 2009
|
This
Second Flush 2009, we hadn't
picked up any Margaret's Hope
teas and they specially sampled
us a special grade tea. It was
hand rolled tea, enormous size,
very aromatic and smooth cup.
We liked it very much and bought
it, but are compelled to add
a sad note to the quantity we
were supplied with - its
just 4 kgs EX-26. Not
for wholesale. This is the most
limited edition tea we have
procured so far since we started
our tea business. You now know
how much we have, just order
and feel lucky! Can't guarantee
you the stock - first come,
first serve!
Dry Tea leaves: Margaret’s
Hand Rolled Spl. is one of the
largest leaf size we have encountered
so far this Second Flush 2009
season. Its an art to retain
the luster and overall good
appearance of any tea without
compromising on tea quality
– this is a perfect example.
The leaf is well twisted with
visible two leaves and a bud.
It has an overall color mixture
of chocolate and white (tips).
Tips or buds are in abundance
each clad in silver hairs that
is quite noticeable. The dry
leaves are very aromatic which
is rather very fruity reminiscent
of plum, peach and apple. It
has an overall malty flavour.
Wet Tea leaves:
The infusion unfolds into visible
two leaves and a bud which are
larger in size. The infusion
turns light and chocolate brown
in color. It has sweet fruity
and flowery point, slightly
chocolaty as well.
Cup or Tea Liqor:
The cup is light like the Topaz
and bears resemblance when it
comes to color. Golden pale-yellow
brew which has a sweet fruity
and flowery notes. Seems slightly
smoky which is accompanied by
caramellic and buttery notes.
The cup is flowery and fruity,
nutty and smooth. It has a sweet
after taste.

ARYA RUBY
(TIPPY) (ORGANIC TEA) 2009 |
Dry
Tea leaves: Arya Tea
Estate has always proved to
be one of the most prestigious
Darjeeling Tea garden. This
Arya Ruby is exceptional and
this time they have tweaked
some stages of processing to
retain the flavour and appearance
attractive, and has reached
the final point successfully.
The dry leaves are much larger
and elongated than the normal
2nd Flush Darjeeling leaves,
with an overall brownish appearance
mixed with silver. The color
of the leaves comprises a mixture
of dark chocolate, light and
dark brown leaves. The name
‘tippy’ is added
to this Ruby because this time,
there is abundance of silver
tips or buds. The tips are covered
by a mixture of faint green,
cream and white hairs giving
it a splendid luster. Two leaves
and a bud are noticeable. The
aroma of the dry tea leaves
is exotic – fruity, chocolaty,
caramellic, musky and flowery
reminiscent of a local herbal
medicinal plant. Apart from
the above aromas, it has that
exclusive overwhelming ‘confectionary’
aroma which can be got when
you are entering a confectionary
factory where all the pastries
are being prepared. In short,
smells like a pastry.
Wet Tea leaves:
You can take a look at the infused
leaves’ pic provided,
and guess the size. It beautifully
unfolds into large leafy infusion
which is a mixture of pale yellow,
light and dark brown colors.
It has a very sweet nose which
is also accompanied by a complex
combination of musky, minty,
malty, fruity and flowery aromas.
Cup or Tea Liqor:
Because of abundance of silver
tips or buds, the cup seems
to be a bit light this time
than the previous Arya Rubys
we tasted before. The cup is
smooth and bright. The aroma
of the cup is slightly minty,
herbal like, sweet like honey,
fruity and flowery. It has a
hint of fruity and flowery taste
with complex layers of sweetness,
honey like, buttery, malty and
nutty (reminiscent of almonds).

[ORGANIC DARJEELING TEA] 2009 |
| Mr.
Jha, the main man at Sungma
Tea Estate sent us the samples
and just gave us 1 hour to make
our decision because it was
on bid. Now guess the demand!
From this year, Sungma is tagging
all clonal teas as “Turzum”
because they have got an additional
license as “Turzum”
to invoice as. So all clonals
from Sungma would bear the name
Turzum. Actually Turzum is a
section of Sungma and this simply
will be an invoice category.
Dry Tea leaves:
This tea is specially made
from BB-157 unique pre-dominant
clonal leaves which is supposed
to yield the highest quality.
“BB” stands for
‘Bannockburn’.
These tea bushes are special
Darjeeling clones approved
by the TRA. The dry leaves
are well rolled and twisted
showing a sign of great manufacture
retaining its appearance.
It has an overall color appearance
of dark chocolate and black
leaves with abundance of silver
and golden tips. It gives
a hint of ripe fruity and
flowery fragrance accompanied
by overwhelming sweetness
which has a complex layer
of maltiness, coffee like,
musk and honey toned.
Wet Tea leaves:
It unfolds into a coppery
infusion which is a combination
of chocolate brown and light
brown colors with some pale-yellow
effect to it. It has an excellent
flowery nose which is accompanied
by complex undertones of fruity
aroma reminiscent of the fruit
plum. It is extremely sweet
with a musky character which
is also malty, almondy and
honey toned.
Cup or Tea Liqor:
An excellent full bodied cup
with a coppery color. It has
excellent fruity and flowery
notes with an undertone that
is sweet, minty, chocolaty

to musky, sweet, flowery,
fruity, malty and nutty in

ARYA SFTGFOP1
(ORGANIC DARJEELING TEA) 2009 |
Dry
Tea leaves: Elongated
dry tea leaves having ‘chocolate
– brown’ overall
appearance with considerable
amount of golden tips signifying
'high quality' Second Flush
Darjeeling Tea. As soon as the
pack got opened, we got an overwhelming
sweet fragrance with an undertone
reminiscent of the fruit plum
which is also 'musky'. It is
a complex flowery tea with complex
hints of 'caramel like', honey,
burnt sugar, slightly nutty,
buttery etc. characteristics.
The tea leaves are well rolled
and twisted, giving it a curled
façade which also appears
to have a rich luster and a
proper Second Flush bloom.
Wet Tea leaves:
Total coppery infused leaves
showing the real characteristics
of a pure Second Flush Darjeeling
tea. The golden buds now appear
to be pale yellow (dark) in
color. It has a sweet aroma
which is also malty or chocolaty
and slightly minty cool. It
has a complex blend of slightly

Cup or Tea Liqor:
Again the cup bears the mark
of a pure Second Flush tea with
its coppery color going more
towards the 'dark red' mark.
Full bodied and smooth with
negligible amount of bitterness,
hardly noticeable - bitterness
increases with longer steeping
time. It has a rich aroma which
is a complex mixture of being
chocolaty or malty, sugary or
honey toned, fruity and nutty,
buttery, musky etc. Each sip
tends to leave your mouth dry

the average Darjeeling greens

SUNGMA
SFTGFOP1 SUPREME MUSCATEL
(Organic)
2009 |
Dry
Tea leaves: This is
another tea from Sungma which
is a product of leaves from
china grade tea bushes. This
tea was shipped as a normal
DJ or invoice because all china
grades will follow the traditional
invoice tagging and not like
the new clonal teas. This tea
has an overall copper-black
appearance of the dry leaves
supposed to be made from dyhydrated
raw china grade leaves. It has
some amount of tips in it. It
has an excellent fruity and
flowery aroma and musky as the
name suggests, but truly the
musky character is not that
overwhelming as the name suggests.
Clonal Wonder wins over this.
But doesn’t mean the tea
is bad, an excellent tea made
highly affordable.
Wet Tea leaves:
It gives a coppery infusion
with light and chocolate brown
colors. It is highly aromatic
