Risheehat Tea Estate owned by Jayshree Tea (Birla Group of Companies) has improved a lot in its organic quality production and has become one of the finest tea producing garden from Darjeeling. Second Flush “Wiry Musk” was a fine pick we did and is still one of our favorites. Mr. Kumar, Risheehat, Manager sent us a couple of autumnal samples and we liked one of their teas namely this one “Risheehat Wiry Vintage”.

As the name suggests this Risheehat is all wiry meaning wire like thin-elongated tea leaves. The leaves have a neat make with an attractive bloom possessing a mix of black, purple, some green and light and dark brown colors. Some amount of green in an autumn flush tends to increase the flavor. You can find a some stalks and is a definitive character of all classic Darjeeling Autumn Flush teas. It is beautifully fragrant with hints of fresh ripe apples and can be slightly described bearing a slight similarity to wine (grapes). It is also floral and some hints of fruity character can be found.

The thin wiry leaves tend to open up into elongated pointed leaves. This Darjeeling Tea has an overall coppery infusion that is quite bright with even leaves. It is a mix of light and dark brown and some bottle green colors. Risheehat has a pleasing nose of fruity and flowery character bending more towards that of ripe apples.

Risheehat tea lends a beautiful amber brew with a body. The bright liqor is brisk in character meaning a lively fresh taste with a rich quality. It has a lovely fruity and flowery aroma reminiscent of ripe apples or punch made from it. It has a sweet aftertaste that is lingering.
